At The Globe and Mail, we are always looking for ways to improve what we offer to our readers and subscribers. That was the motivation behind the creation of a Facebook group exclusively for Globe print and digital subscribers. This group was created in 2016 and has been growing and thriving thanks to contributions from readers, reporters and editors.
You can join the group here.
Why did The Globe create a subscribers-only Facebook group?
We wanted to create a space where The Globe’s most informed and engaged readers can discuss and debate the news with each other and with Globe journalists in a valuable and respectful way. We also see the importance of being more open about the decisions made in our newsroom and hope this group will help us be more transparent.
Globe subscribers can also engage with each other via our new comments platform, launched on April 30. Monday through Friday we gather top comments from our site and subscribers’ Facebook group and share them in “From the comments”.
How is this group different from your Facebook page?
The Globe and Mail Subscribers group differs from The Globe’s main Facebook page in a few ways. First, we’re only sharing this group with subscribers. Second, the group has its own code of conduct to ensure the highest level of discussion. All posts made to the group by readers or Globe staff are vetted by a team of moderators to ensure group standards are maintained.
The group also makes it easier for readers to directly engage with the journalist reporting on the stories that matter to them. Reporters and editors share their stories to the group with insights you won’t find elsewhere. Reporters also participate in the discussions taking place on their posts, and they use the group as a way to gauge your interest in various topics.
