Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will announce a small cabinet shuffle Wednesday, sources say.
Three sources with knowledge of the plan say the government will announce a change involving two ministers in order to accommodate family health matters. One of the sources said the move does not necessarily mean that someone is leaving cabinet.
The Globe and Mail is not identifying the sources as they were not authorized to comment on the record about the announcement.
The Liberal cabinet is scheduled to meet next week in Vancouver for a retreat. On Sept. 10, the Conservative Party will announce the results of its leadership race. The winner of that vote will lead the Official Opposition in the House of Commons when it resumes sitting on Sept. 19.
The Liberal government is approaching the first anniversary of its re-election on Sept. 20, 2021, when it won a second consecutive minority government mandate. In March, the Liberals and NDP announced an agreement in which NDP MPs pledged to keep the Liberals in power for a full four-year mandate in exchange for action on a list of policy priorities, including a new national dental-care program.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has recently said that the Liberals must act on the dental-care pledge this year or his party will pull out of the deal.
