Today, readers are discussing Theresa May’s battle to save a Brexit deal as resignations plunge her government into turmoil. Still catching up on this evolving situation? The Globe’s Paul Waldie has you covered: U.K., EU and the draft Brexit deal: What you need to know and what happens next
It is hard to imagine any deal that would not see a significant impact to the UK. Their financial sector will take a huge hit and shrink from the European headquarters to a provincial backwater. Then there is the bizarre issue of Northern Ireland and a new border that would enforce any tariffs or duties to travel to there from the UK.
Maybe they should have another referendum, now that the true impacts of this move are becoming more apparent. Theresa May was not pro Brexit, but she was left with the job of trying to make a deal when the true architects of the Pro side abandoned the job, pointing to the fire they started and said “Better put that out before we all get burned.” - EastCoastFish
I cannot understand why the U.K seems intent in tearing itself apart as a result of referendum which narrowly voted to leave the E.U. There have been repeated calls for a new referendum but the U.K. seems intent on going down this self inflicted path to ruin. - Doug5985
This will go down as one of the biggest self inflicted wounds a country has ever needlessly imposed on itself and future generations. All due to the hubris of David Cameron. - Candace248
It’s interesting to see the number of posters here critical of The UK’s attempt to leave the EU. Not one of Canada’s major political parties would enter into a similar agreement with our neighbours, the U.S. and Mexico. If they proposed such a union the same critics of the UK here would be loudly condemning such a loss of our sovereignty. - DRYBURGH6
