A 20-year-old man is facing charges after two stabbings near the Edmonton Oilers arena during an NHL playoff game on the weekend.

Edmonton police say officers responded to a weapons complaint outside Rogers Place on Saturday night and found two people had been stabbed.

A video on social media shows a man wearing an Oilers jersey wielding a knife before getting shot by police.

Police say he was then taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains stable.

Police say a man and woman taken to hospital with serious injuries also remain in stable condition in hospital.

Jordan Reilly Fouquette is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

On Monday, police promised a greater presence in the downtown area during Oilers games as violence and unruly behaviour has increased during playoff game watch parties.
