Residents of a hamlet northeast of Calgary were being allowed to return to their homes Tuesday after crews cleared the site of a collision between a train and a propane truck.
Kneehill County declared a state of local emergency on Monday for Swalwell, and 100 residents were forced out.
The Canadian National Railway said there were no reports of injuries or fire and no goods spilled from railcars.
But propane spilled from the truck, and the area was evacuated as a precaution.
Local authorities declared the community safe for re-entry Tuesday afternoon.
The county said it had been screening air quality throughout the day and there were no concerns.
“Thank you to our first responders for their decisive action, and to the public for allowing them to work to their full potential. Your actions have helped to make our community safer, which remains our No. 1 goal,” Kneehill County said in a news release.
“Thank you also to the many community members and organizations who reached out and offered support during the event.”
