David Fuller, who leads Telus Corp.’s all-important consumer telecom business, is leaving the company in January.
Mr. Fuller, who some had previously touted as a possible successor to chief executive officer Darren Entwistle, will be replaced by two other Telus executives.
Zainul Mawji will take over responsibility for residential services – including television and broadband internet – as well as small and medium-sized business service. Jim Senko will be in charge of the company’s wireless business.
Ms. Mawji is currently vice-president of home solutions and Mr. Senko is senior vice-president of consumer and small business marketing. Both have been with Telus for 17 years. Mr. Fuller’s formal title is executive vice-president and president of Telus consumer and small business solutions.
Mr. Fuller joined Telus in 2004 and worked closely with Joe Natale, who was CEO of Telus for a year and a half before leaving in 2015 as Mr. Entwistle resumed his long-time role. Mr. Fuller remained with the company after Mr. Natale’s departure and in 2017, when Mr. Natale became CEO of Rogers, Telus awarded his former close associate a retention grant worth $2-million (paid in restricted stock options as well as pension credits).
The company said the grant was in exchange for Mr. Fuller entering into an amended employment agreement that included extending his non-compete clause to two years, up from one year. It also required him to give Telus three-months’ notice before leaving the company.
Telus CEO Mr. Entwistle sent employees a memo on Monday with news of Mr. Fuller’s planned exit, lauding the departing executive’s achievements with the company.
Telus confirmed the news, first reported by The Globe and Mail, in a news release Monday evening.
“Over the course of his career at Telus, Dave has contributed immeasurably to our organizational success and the evolution of our customer-centric culture," Mr. Entwistle said in the release. “I am exceptionally grateful for his years of service to Telus and I wish him the very best in all his future endeavours.”
