Canada Post workers take part in a picket line as they start their strike action in Toronto on Nov. 15.Chris Young/The Canadian Press

More than 55,000 Canada Post workers went on strike last week after the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and the Crown corporation reached an impasse in contract negotiations, just before the busy holiday shopping season begins. At the heart of the issue are disagreements over wages, job conditions and how to expand weekend parcel delivery services in order to compete with other major couriers such as Amazon, United Parcel Service Inc. and FedEx Corp.

The strike will significantly reduce mail services and many people are worried about how long it could last. Small businesses, which tend to be dependent on Canada Post because it is a cheaper option for parcel delivery, have warned that a strike could devastate them financially. Meanwhile, customers are bracing for significant delays in receiving and sending packages ahead of the holidays.

The Globe is looking to speak with Canadians who are being impacted by the work stoppages. Are you a small-business owner with orders waiting to be delivered? Have you already ordered your holiday gifts and now your packages are on hold? We want to know what you’re experiencing.
