Kelly Pope-Wiley, CFP, a consultant at IG Wealth Management in Kingston, Ont., shares some insights about her day-to-day work as a financial planner:
How important is coaching and collaboration in your work with your clients?
It takes a lot of trust for clients to share all the details about their financial situation. I build trust so I can help them build a comprehensive financial plan. It’s a true collaboration with clients, and when we have great information about their financial picture, goals and concerns, we can help them realize those aspirations.
How has CFP certification been helpful for you?
My CFP certification training is applicable in every client interaction I have. Whether we’re working on ensuring retirement success or developing a plan to realize their dream of home ownership, I use it every day.
Why should someone consider a career as a professional financial planner?
Next to physical wellness, financial wellness is critical. We get the opportunity to work with our clients through the good and bad times of their lives, and when they proactively address their financial wellness, we can take stress away so people get to live their best lives. It’s an incredible privilege to build trust and relationships with clients.
