Kristy Kirkup is a seasoned national affairs reporter for The Globe and Mail based in Ottawa who has spent more than a decade on and near Parliament Hill.
Kristy began her career at CTV News in Ottawa followed by stints with Sun Media, CBC News and The Canadian Press before joining The Globe and Mail in fall 2019.
She has travelled internationally with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She has covered four federal election campaigns (2011, 2015, 2019 and 2021) and has crisscrossed the country to prove it.
Kristy is also drawn to in-depth journalism. In 2017, she was recognized, alongside Canadian Press colleagues, with the Canadian Journalism Foundation Jackman Award for Excellence in Journalism for a series about sexual trauma in Indigenous communities.
In 2021, she was part of a group of Globe and Mail reporters who received the Michener Award, the country's highest journalism prize for public service journalism. The team's work was focused on efforts made by the Catholic Church to avoid accepting responsibility for its role at residential schools.
Kristy is passionate about using the power of journalism to shine a light in dark places and to lift up the voices of the silenced and forgotten.
