Janice Dickson covers international affairs for The Globe and Mail. She joined The Globe’s foreign desk in 2023, and has covered Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the aftermath of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, and global crises.

Previously, Janice spent nearly five years in The Globe’s Ottawa bureau, where her coverage focused on politics and immigration.

In 2021, Janice helped lead The Globe’s coverage of the federal government’s failure to bring Afghans who worked for Canada’s diplomatic and military missions in Afghanistan to safety. The story brought Janice to Pakistan, where she met dozens of families waiting in limbo and her reporting helped spur government action. She won an Amnesty International Media award for her work.

Shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Janice joined a small team of reporters covering the war. She has written on Russia’s illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory, Russian filtration camps in Ukraine, Russian missile attacks, and a story about Ukrainian women being sexually assaulted by Russian troops, among others. Recently, Janice interviewed Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska.

Janice has reported from more than a dozen countries, covering a range of issues such as Afghan refugees seeking safety in southern Turkey, Lebanon’s economic crisis and women’s rights in Honduras.
