Why did you become a journalist?

I have spent my entire career in newspapers after starting in student journalism, and am driven by journalism's unique power to inform readers on a huge array of issues, to demand accountability and transparency from people in positions of power, to surprise and delight - and to do it in print and pixels, every day.
