Cherise has spent the last few years as a journalist in Vancouver, most recently as a staff reporter at the Toronto Star’s Vancouver bureau where she covered health, migration, Indigenous issues and more. She was also the lead organizer for the Vancouver chapter of Canadian Journalists of Colour. Cherise holds a master of journalism degree from the University of British Columbia, and as an International Reporting Program fellow she travelled to Cali, Colombia, to report on former soldiers for The Guardian.
