Allan Maki was a national news reporter and sports writer based in Calgary. He joined the Globe and Mail in 1997 with an extensive sports background having covered Stanley Cup finals, the Grey Cup, Summer and Winter Olympics, the 1980 Miracle on Ice, the 1989 Super Bowl riot and the 1989 earthquake World Series.
As a news reporter, Maki has written about Calgary’s flooding, the political misfortunes of former Alberta premier Alison Redford and how climate change in the Arctic is helping to shrink polar bears.
Maki is a four-time National Newspaper Award finalist in three different categories.
He was named 2001 Sportswriter of the Year by Sports Media Canada. He has appeared on dozens of television and radio shows, authored Pro Football's Greatest Stars and is a member of the Football Reporters of Canada Hall of Fame.
