Audience Growth

Alisha Sawhney is the Podcast Lead for The Globe Content Studio, the content marketing division of The Globe and Mail. She oversees podcast strategy, working across departments to conceptualize, pitch, produce and promote both editorial and sponsored podcasts.

Alisha was previously an audience growth editor at The Globe and Mail. Prior to joining The Globe, she spent a year and a half with New York Times Opinion, working on their audience desk. She worked primarily as a homepage and social editor, and divided her time between Toronto and NYC.

Before that, she was an audience growth editor at HuffPost Canada, where she was also the co-host of “Born and Raised,” a HuffPost Canada podcast about the second-gen experience.

She was the host and executive producer of “Lost Voices: An Untold Story of the South Asian Diaspora,” a podcast produced in collaboration with McGill University and the Digital Museums of Canada.

Alisha previously worked as an editor at Maclean’s, where she led the editorial direction of the magazine’s digital archive, the first of its kind in Canada.

Her writing has appeared in The Walrus, Chatelaine and Toronto Life, among others.

Why did you become a journalist?

I think a lot about how good journalism can cut through the noise, stand a chance at survival in the attention economy and have a lasting impact. I am passionate about how we consume news online, and I love experimenting with new platforms, storytelling formats and editorial products.
