Alanna Smith joined The Globe and Mail’s Calgary bureau in April, 2022. She is passionate about social issues reporting on topics such as the drug poisoning crisis, homelessness and mental health. Before joining The Globe, Alanna reported for The Canadian Press and the Calgary Herald, where she was nominated for a 2019 National Newspaper Award in beat reporting for a package of stories on domestic violence. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism and Women and Gender Studies from Carleton University in Ottawa.
