Halifax director Thom Fitzgerald's film Three Needles, a movie about the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, has been selected to be screened during the opening gala of the Atlantic Film Festival in September.
The film festival, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, features movies and documentaries created by Eastern Canadian, Canadian and international filmmakers. It will be held this year from Sept. 15 to 24.
Organizers said that Fitzgerald, whose films are a regular fixture at the festival, will kick off the AFF because he's a great supporter of the event and his new movie is fantastic.
Last year, more than 200 films were screened during the nearly week-and-a-half long festival.
