film review

A scene from the concert film One Direction: This Is Us.

By all outward appearances – and outward is the only kind of appearance we're permitted – the super-popular, super-cute and super-rich Brit boy band One Direction is making the most of its five minutes of Twitter-propelled global fame.

As Morgan Spurlock's soda-pop-effervescent 3-D "documentary" of their triumphant global tour keeps telling us, the five teen dreamboat members of this hand-picked (by X Factor honcho Simon Cowell), prefab group are really just regular lads who like a laugh, like each other and love making their fans happy.

If the movie's sole sobering note is struck by a mum and dad who confess they've hardly seen their son since fame struck, it's not allowed to spoil the party. Good thing too, as it's bound to be over in a heartbeat.
