Just over two years ago, The Globe and Mail launched its first mobile application. Our goal was put the world's events in people's hands no matter where they happened to be. We wanted to bring the story to you.
When we started, there was no such thing as an iPad, PlayBook or Android phone. Now, we live in a world awash in smartphones and tablet computers. They're faster, cost less and let people do a whole lot more.
To take advantage of all that power Canadians have in their pocket, we are introducing a completely new vision for our mobile news applications.

Download it today for your iPhone or iPad, BlackBerry or PlayBook. Or search "Globe News" in the App Store or App World. If you have any questions, or general feedback, please don't hesitate to e-mail us at mobile@globeandmail.com.
Front and centre in Globe News is an understanding that to be effective, news applications need to be fast. They need to get you the news you need now -- tap the screen and you will immediately know what's going on in the world around you.
Gone is the old list-based approach where we dictate the news to you. The new application lets you customize the news experience and choose what you want to see and where you want to see it.
The reading experience is cleaner, intentionally stripped down, so that you can get closer to the story without anything to distract you. And when we have photos that tell their own story, we've made sure to take full advantage of the screens that today's smart phones and iPads offer.

We're also making our first forays into building a truly social app experience. We want Globe News to be a place for discussion about the issues that matter, whether that is through Globe content, or the best commentary available elsewhere online.
A lot of the features have been based on the feedback from our readers, who've very generously offered to share their vision of what The Globe should be in world where things are changing so quickly. That advice has proven invaluable as we worked to create the next-generation of Globe and Mail applications.
Download it today and let us know what you think.
