The best part about this TV musical is watching Canadian cutie Nolan Gerard Funk strut his stuff. The 22-year-old from British Columbia stands out as Nikko, a rock star looking for a band to front. His own group threw him out after one too many antics, and his attempt to go solo goes nowhere until he's got enough money to record a demo. Enter Courtney ( Y&R's Tammin Sursok) captain of the high school's song-and-dance show choir (supervised by a bored looking Greg Germann, Fish from Ally McBeal). She needs a new male soloist, but choreographed jazz moves and easy-listening tunes aren't Nikko's style. Not to mention the choir's love of lamé outfits, a fabric Nikko likes to mispronounce as "lame." When Courtney promises him half the choir's prize money if he helps them win a national contest, Nikko dons the lame lamé for the sake of his art. Much singing and dancing ensues in this rock-influenced high-school musical as Nikko eventually must choose between the career he's always wanted and the true friends he's recently made.
